For those unfamiliar with the Alliance française, it is an international organization, founded in Paris in 1883, which aims to promote the French language and culture throughout the world.

With over 834 branches in more than 135 countries, the Alliance française is the largest cultural network of its kind in the world. It welcomes nearly 500,000 learners every year!

As of May 31, 2023, we are the Alliance française Suriname. At Alliance française Suriname, you can take French courses at all levels. Our courses are designed for everyone, from beginners to advanced learners. We offer courses on our own premises at Letitia Vriesdelaan 14-16 in Paramaribo, but we can also provide courses for private and public organizations.

Would you also like to learn more about French culture? In addition to French courses, we organize conversation sessions, sessions where you can learn French by singing, movie nights (and movie marathons!) and we’ve got lots more ideas….

Every month, in cooperation with the French Embassy in Suriname and Guyana and the Collectivité Territoriale de Guyane (CTG), we organize ‘Happy hours’ where French entrepreneurs come to present their products or services, and where you can ask questions, become a partner, and so on.

We recently opened our French bistro, Le Quatorze! It’s now the only place, not only in Paramaribo but also in Suriname, where you can go for a cup of coffee and enjoy real French pains au chocolat and croissants! You can also eat delicious sandwiches with real French baguette for lunch. At weekends, you can enjoy a glass of French wine in the evening, accompanied by a platter of charcuterie and/or cheese…. just like in
France!
